The Crooked Man is the latest The Conjuring spin-off

Following in the footsteps of Annabelle and The Nun, The Conjuring 2‘s creepy juddering sprite The Crooked Man will be spinning off into his own film.

THR reports that Mike Van Waes has been brought on to write the film about the character that tormented the Hodgson family in 2016’s The Conjuring 2, and was inspired by the creepy nursery rhyme “There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile/ He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile/ He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse/ And they all lived together in a little crooked house.”

The great Javier Botet brought the character to life, and we’re assuming that he’ll be back for this film, but there are absolutely no details currently beyond the writer’s name and the fact that this film is happening.

Meanwhile, Annabelle: Creation, directed by David F Sandberg, hits cinemas on 11 August, and Corin Hardy’s The Nun is currently in production and will be released on 13 July 2018.

While Van Waes has yet to have a script produced, THR notes that he’s been selling pitches for films left and right, including a horror take on The Wizard Of Oz that went to New Line.

The Conjuring series has been extremely profitable for the studio so it’s not particularly surprising that they want to keep exploring spin-off options. However, surely James Wan’s got to come back to do The Conjuring 3 at some point, or they’re going to run out of demons and ghosts to give origin stories to…
